In a year where it was expected that the San Francisco 49ers could rise above the rest and have a great season, they underperformed and are near the bottom of the barrel. In the midst of their bad season, there are grumblings that Head Coach Mike Nolan is on the chopping block. Here is the full article:
This was supposed to be the year that the combination of good young talent and a weak NFC West made the 49ers a potential playoff team. But the 49ers aren’t getting to the postseason, and now there is actually talk in San Francisco that head coach Mike Nolan’s job could be on the line. The 49ers play the Falcons Sunday, and for as bad as the Atlanta offense has looked this year without Michael Vick at quarterback, it’s a lot better than the San Francisco offense has looked without Norv Turner calling the plays. Nolan chose Jim Hostler as Turner’s successor, and that decision has had disastrous consequences on the field. If the 49ers lose to the woeful Falcons Sunday, it could have disastrous consequences for Nolan’s job security, too.
