Rookie 49er Tarell Brown was awarded with the Thomas Herrion Award, which is presented to the 49er rookie or first year player who has taken advantage of every opportunity, turned it into a positive situation and made their dream a reality. Here is the full article:

Rookie cornerback Tarell Brown came to the 49ers with a lot of baggage. On Monday, he received some affirmation that he is doing very well with the 49ers.

Brown was named the winner of the Thomas Herrion Award. The award goes to the 49ers rookie or first-year player who has taken advantage of every opportunity, turned it into a positive situation and made their dream a reality.

“I want to represent Thomas in a positive way,” Brown said.

Brown was a second-round talent at the Texas who became a fifth-round choice because of issues about his character.

Twice in nine months he was in vehicles that, when searched by police, were found to have marijuana. Twice Brown was charged; twice those charges were dropped.

Brown had a strong training camp on and off the field. He is a backup cornerback and he has a chance to become a starter in the future.

“He looks to be a good part of what we do going forward,” coach Mike Nolan said.
