At age 35 and 13 years playing left guard, has Larry Allen decided to hang it all up? Well many in his situation would but he is playing it as if he has found the fountain of youth. He spent more than $50,000 on a gym that even trounces the team’s and this gym was solely built for him providing him with all the essentials to get in shape for the season.

Justin Smiley even goes as far to say,”He just seems like a different person this year,” “As far as getting up off the ground after a play, he gets up quicker. He looks better. You can just tell he put in a lot of time this offseason.”No one knows exactly how many pounds Allen shed from January to July. Smiley calls it “a significant amount of weight.” But it’s clear Allen is far more comfortable at 340 pounds than he was last season. Mike Nolan goes to say,”He is moving as well as he’s moved in a while,” coach Mike Nolan said of Allen. “He’s really running well.”

With Allen in the final year of his contract who knows if this new rejuvenation is the end of a great career or maybe he’ll be immortal and play just a few more seasons? One thing you can count on is for him to perform well for the 49ers, a great example of consistency for younger players.
